Dear Associates:
Senate Bill No. 98-045 was signed into law on April 17, 1998. This bill included provisions for an increase in fees charged by the Public Trustee for the processing of a Release of Deed of Trust. The Release fee has been increased from $8.00 to $10.00, with the total cost, including the recording fee, of a one page Release being $16.00.
This bill became effective as of the date it was signed on April 17, 1998. Several of the Public Trustee's have indicated that they will not be implementing the release fees until on or after June 1, 1998. You should check with your local County Public Trustee to determine when they are going to begin implementing the fee increase.
