RE: Altered Documentation Alert

Dear Associates:

A recent report in Newsday about a man who obtained a mortgage after he altered his mother's death certificate to provide proof of his wife's death may inspire "copycat" incidents. Please alert your clearance and closing personnel, including outside closers, to make close scrutiny of death certificates. While it may be difficult or impossible to detect a very good forgery, it is probable that the forger in this case and any copycat forgers might not be quite so sophisticated.
