Following is the text of memorandum issued by the Erie County Clerk to customers of the office, dated May 10, 2005. Please be guided accordingly.
On May 5, the Erie County
Legislature voted to increase the cover page
fee for recorded documents in the Clerk's Office
from $5 to $15. This
change will go into effect on Monday, May 16, 2005.
Mail that is post-marked prior to this date will still be processedat the present $5 fee.
This increase allows for the first restoration of personnel sincethe lay-off of 68% of budgeted positions in the Clerk's Officeon March 14. Despite significant backlogs that have accruedin since that time, it is my sincere hope that we will soon be able to restore more expeditious service at the counter, in indexingrecords and in processing mail.
