RE: Insurance Fraud Reporting

Dear Associates:

In an effort to streamline reporting of false or fraudulent claims and for the purpose of initiating proactive antifraud efforts, the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner's Office has developed an on-line fraud reporting system utilizing the National Association of Insurance Commissioners' (NAIC) On-Line Fraud Reporting System (OFRS). This office's link to the OFRS can be found at www.gainsurance.org/fraud/report.aspx.

Pursuant to O.C.G.A. §33-1-16(f) all licensed insurance carriers in Georgia shall report all incidences of insurance fraud and suspected incidents of insurance fraud through the OFRS beginning August 1, 2008. By accessing the Department's website at www.gainsurance.org/fraud/report.aspx, carriers can access the OFRS. This link will provide both a central location for data storage and a repository for all fraudulent related material which occurs in the state of Georgia. The NAIC link provides direct secure access by the company to input critical information on-line.

Information obtained through reporting will be accessible to the state insurance departments and will be searchable or accessible to their authorized users. All licensed carriers will be required to have user and password verification to enter the portal. Carriers should coordinate their access through the NAIC. Access information will be provided at the above link. Active participation is required to insure the Department develops adequate resources to address the needs of the carriers and the general public.

Please direct any questions or correspondence concerning this Directive to the Office of Commissioner of Insurance, Enforcement Division, Fraud Unit, 708 West Tower, Floyd Building, 2 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Atlanta, Georgia, 30334; (404) 656-2060.
