Dear Associates:

Due to the path of Hurricane Dorian, many South Carolina courthouses are already closed and will remain closed until further notice. Some will close later this week.

The Supreme Court has issued an order that states:

“[A]ll county and municipal employees working within the Unified Judicial System … should follow the decisions made by the respective county or municipal government officials in regards to office delays or closings as a result of this inclement weather. Because weather conditions may vary throughout the state, all state judicial officers and employees should follow the decisions made by their respective county government officials regarding office delays or closings (emphasis original).”

This order covers Registers of Deeds as well as Clerks of Court. Many lenders and banks are still open however.

Many people had closings last Friday, and some have closings today or tomorrow in the affected counties and are or will be unable to record. If this is the case, Stewart will still insure the transactions and the gap during this time. We simply ask that you have the documents at the courthouse at the first possible moment upon re-opening for recording.
